Literacy Volunteers offers individualized English language lessons with our trained volunteer tutors. This is a free service. Each student completes an application and receives a standard assessment. Our volunteer tutors must complete an ESL/ESOL or Adult Basic Education (ABE) training with Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts. Most have a Bachelor’s degree, and all have a minimum of a high school education. Student-tutor matches are made based on availability and interests. The student and tutor will meet for two hours once a week in a public place such as the library or a local coffee shop or online via Zoom or similar platform. All students in the tutoring program must complete an assessment at least once per year.
